My Photography Research
Ted VanCleave
Ted VanCleave is a Los Angeles based photographer. His colorful images of the Hollywood Scene uses extreme angles, textural detail, and a very creative imagination to achieve a powerful effect. His work has gained him many honors and distinctions. His highly sought after work has offered an exciting, innovative, original approach to photography.
Examples Of His Work
This particular image is quite a comical animation like picture. It resembles a cartoon scene- the evil scientist plotting doom in his tower surrounded by dark sky. Its main focus is the the huge metallic looking buildings, that mirror the reflection other buildings. The image itself is very powerful with its different elements that demonstrate a bit of futuristic flair in our modern world, contrasting perfectly with its red sky setting.
Afton Almaraz
Afton Almaraz was born in Los Angeles, California and has lived in various parts of East Asia and the United States. Now based in New York City and working as a Photo Editor on the Global Picture Desk at Getty Images, he continues to pursue a variety of photographic projects.
Examples Of His Work
I like these pictures because its catches the true New York style - the hustle and bustle of people. It depicts modern day New Yorkers getting on with their daily lives, regardless of anything else. In my opinion this image captures the true sense of reality, the colors are vibrant and loud, and to me they mostly speak for the picture.
Cameron R. Neilson
His black and white images capture iconic skylines from the interior of the city rather than in their more common incarnations. Neilson's perspective help skyscrapers live up to their title and injects a new kaleidoscopic perspective and fascination with a genre of street-bound architectural photography.
My Review Of Photography Apps
Color Pop
Color Pop Effects is the most popular Instagram Photo Editor with more than 5 millions fans worldwide & growing!
This app is easy to use from the words 'get go'! This app allows the public to show their creativity and show unique take on life. The use of the app allows you to add or take away color to a photo, I'd recommend it to anyone! However it does have a few criticisms, such as there are limitations on what you can and can't add, also you can't change the original color of the picture to a different of your choice. In spite of those criticisms, the app itself is fantastic for editing pictures. You can see one of my pictures I had edited.

Colour Splurge
Color Splurge is an amazing for adding vibrancy and color in a photo, with many colors and selections to choose from the app, however failed when wanting to enlarge it was very blurry and not of a good quality.
My Example: In this photo I took one of my chosen photographers and tried to recreate his style of photo taking and vision in the picture I took in New York of the Empire State Building.

My Take On Mobile Photgraphy
Since starting mobile photography, I've researched many mobile photographers and wanted to take my own pictures. I was then given a brief to take pictures around the school, taking pictures of anything with edges and to be creative.
A Day In Manchester
A Splash Of Color
Worst Picture
This is my worst photo because it doesn't really serve an actual purpose. The camera shake leaves the picture unfocused and blurred, and with the white wire hanging over the image its clear to say this picture isn't the best.
Best Photo
The reason why I have chosen this as my best photo of the shoot is because I liked the strong angles in the photo and the geometrical patterns that appear in the image. The color acts as a beacon of light that sets the picture ablaze and adds life to the shadowed setting, It immediately draws eyes to the illuminating colors.
Christmas In Manchester
Best Photo
I chose this as my best picture because I feel it captures the human emotion as both the members of staff look happy. It also captures the Christmas spirit and the joy that is spread. The photo symbolizes the true sense of this special holiday - togetherness and joy.
Worst Photo
The brief was to capture all things Christmas in Manchester, however this picture says otherwise. It is unclear to the viewer due to the camera shake and the angle the picture was taken. It doesn't fit in with this brief and fails to express Christmas time in Manchester.
The Cathedral
Best Photo
This is the best photo of the shoot because in my opinion it expresses many more qualities than the others. The colours in the stained glass window shine like a beacon of light in a dark place, to me it connects with the feeling of hope and how light can appear in the darkest of places. One of my favourite things about the picture is the angle the picture was taken at. The exposure it was taken at ties in with mood and tone of the picture.
Worst Photo
This picture is frankly boring and dull. It has no meaning or story behind it whatsoever. The photo is disorientated and blurry. The candles in the box are nothing special and to me ruin the brief given. It was clear that the photo was taken before focusing and had been rushed, perhaps with better lighting, some of the candles being lit and being in focus, this photo could've have turned out to be much different and better. It's boring.
Architecture In Manchester
Best Photo(s)
During this shoot I couldn't decide which of the two of the pictures I liked the most. The first picture is a continuous tunnel of arches, that lead towards light- its literally the light at the end of the tunnel. The arches are sharp, clear and the bulbs on top give the picture a unique and futuristic flair to it. The second picture won me over with its intricate patterns woven over it. The light brown colour adds to the old ancient look of the cathedral. It's easy to entranced in the bold designs.
Worst Photo
This photo is my worst because the picture has no meaning. Its dull and drab. The tone and mood have the picture have sullen written all over it. The exposure of the picture doesn't make it any better, the windows are beautiful with its unique patterns but they are shadowed behind bad lighting and thick walls.
The 'Hustle and Bustle'
Best Photo
I chose this photo as ONE of my best photos. I liked the idea of the 'musician' taking in his surroundings and looking content as he lights his cigarette. One of the reasons why I took this picture was that it had a strong link to one of my chosen photographers photo, which shown just next to it. My picture on the left is the complete polar opposite when compared to photo on the right side. The ambiance is both the photos are very unique.
Worst Photo
This photo is my chosen worst photo for many reasons. One of which is that the picture is completely blurry this is again to the camera shake. It is not quite clear of whats happening in the picture, infact the only thing that is visible to the human eye is the sign behind the man, this takes this focus of my original focus onto something else.
